Dead Finks – Anodyne
Berlin-based post-punk outfit Dead Finks share “Anodyne,” a single from their fourth album “New Plastik Abyss,” out March 27 via Bretford Records. The track showcases the band’s evolution beyond their earlier abrasive sound.
The song tackles addiction and broken promises through direct, unflinching lyrics. Lines like “It was like she took a spike directly to my vein” and the repeated refrain “I said I’d never do that again” capture the cycle of relapse with brutal honesty. The narrator moves between acknowledging warnings and justifying their choices, creating a conflict that mirrors the push-pull of dependency.
Dead Finks have carved an unusual niche in Berlin’s predominantly club-focused music scene. Joseph Thomas (guitar/vocals) and Erin Violet (bass/vocals) lead the four-piece, joined by Ivan Krasnov (guitar) and Nick Jongen (drums), with Phương Vũ adding synthesizer and additional vocals on “Anodyne.” The band worked with Fabien de Menou on mixing and production, with Greg Obis handling mastering.
